TASK FORCE ON TRANSPORTATION FINANCE FORMED
(DENVER) - A 15-member Task Force on Transportation Finance has been formed to evaluate, identify and recommend new and innovative funding sources for transportation, Governor Bill Owens announced today.
“Transportation has always been one of my highest priorities and we have been successful,” Owens said. “The bonding program approved by voters in 1999 has resulted in significant progress statewide and the bi-partisan transportation bill passed by the legislature last year will mean billions of dollars for future projects. Still, we cannot lose sight of more immediate needs that require funding.”
Some of Colorado’s most prominent business and community leaders have agreed to serve on the task force. Their charge is to recommend to the Governor transportation funding sources that are reliable and come from within the existing tax base.
The members include:
Tucker Hart Adams, President, The Adams Group, Inc., Joe Blake, President and CEO, Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, Robert Everitt, Chairman and CEO, Everitt Companies, Joel Farkas, Principal, Gateway American Properties, Martin Hart, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Regis University, Wayne Hutchens, President, BankOne, William Hybl, Chairman and CEO, El Pomar Foundation, Mike Imhoff, Managing Director, Stifel, Nicolaus, Hanifen, Imhoff Division, Debbie Jessup, President, KeyBank Colorado, John Saeman, Owner, Medallion Enterprises, LLC, Bob Tointon, President, Phelps-Tointon, Inc., Nancy Tuor, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Kaiser-Hill, Joseph Wagner, Chairman and CEO, Wagner Equipment Company, Mike Beasley, Executive Director, Colorado Department of Local Affairs, and Henry Sobanet, Deputy Director, Office of State Planning and Budgeting.
The Task Force is expected to meet several times in December and January, with recommendations to the Governor made during the early part of the legislative session.
