OWENS APPOINTS MARCELO KOPCOW OF GREELEY TO THE WELD COUNTY COURT

DENVER - Governor Bill Owens has appointed Marcelo A. Kopcow of Greeley to the Weld County Court in the 19th Judicial District.  Kopcow is filling a vacancy created by the resignation of the Honorable Carol M. Haller.

“Marcelo Kopcow has established and maintained a model municipal courtroom” said Gov. Owens.  “He has demonstrated himself to be a good attorney, an excellent judge and a valuable member of the community. I believe that Marcelo will serve the people of Weld County in a fair and efficient manner.”

Kopcow is the Municipal Judge & Department Director for the Greeley Municipal Court and the Liquor Hearing Officer for the City of Greeley.  As a Municipal Court Judge, he handles all functions related to the municipal legal system. From 1994 to 2002, Mr. Kopcow served as a Deputy District Attorney in the 19th Judicial District. In addition, for the past five years he has been a visiting instructor for the Greeley Police Department, Weld County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado State Patrol on various criminal law topics. Mr. Kopcow earned his undergraduate degree from Northeastern University and his law degree from New York Law School.

The initial term of office for a county court judge is a provisional term of two years, after which the incumbent must stand for retention to serve an additional four years.  This appointment is effective January 14, 2003.  The annual salary for a county court judgeship is $100,137.
