OWENS APPOINTS TERENCE GILMORE TO 8th JUDICIAL DISTRICT

DENVER – Governor Bill Owens today appointed Terence Gilmore of Fort Collins as district court judge in the 8th Judicial District, which includes Larimer and Jackson Counties. Gilmore replaces the Honorable William F. Dressel who will retire December 15, 2000.

"Terence Gilmore’s 24-years of experience in the district courts will be an asset to the district bench," said Gov. Owens. "His knowledge of the day-to-day workings of the court and his expertise in criminal law will serve the citizens of Colorado well."

Terence Gilmore has served as chief deputy district attorney for the 8th Judicial District since 1980. Prior to that, Gilmore was deputy district attorney from 1975 to 1980. He was an associate with the firm of Banta, Banta and Eitel from 1973 to 1975.

Gilmore is active in the community, serving as a faculty member of the National Advocacy Center in Columbia, South Carolina and as president of the Larimer County Bar Association from 1992 to 1993. Gilmore received his juris doctorate from the University of Denver School of Law.

The annual salary for this position is $90,986. The initial term of office for a district court judge is a provisional term of two years, after which the incumbent must stand for retention to serve an additional six years.
