DENVER - Governor Bill Owens has appointed Robert M. Russel of Lakewood to the Colorado Court of Appeals. Russel will fill a vacancy on the court caused by the retirement of the Honorable Peter H. Ney.
"Bob Russel has over 25 years of experience in appellate practice" said Owens. "He is regarded as a leading expert on criminal appeals and I am confident that he will be a valued and respected member of the Colorado Court of Appeals."
Russel is currently Chief of the Appellate Division of the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Colorado. Russel regularly gives presentations to attorneys and judges on the subjects of criminal law and appellate practice. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Colorado School of Law and the University of Denver College of Law on the subject of appellate practice.
Prior to and after law school, Russel taught music and English at Kent Denver School. During that time, he was also a percussionist for the opera and a drummer for local bands. As an active member of his community, Russel serves on the Board of Trustees of the Forest Heights Lodge, a residential treatment center for emotionally disturbed boys.
Russel earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Northern Colorado and his law degree from the University of Colorado School of Law.
