(DENVER) – Gov. Bill Owens today announced the appointment of Jack L. Darnell of Fort Morgan to the Peace Officers Standards and Training Board.
“Public safety is our number-one concern in Colorado. The Peace Officers Standards and Training Board exists to ensure that our police officers are well trained and prepared for any emergency,” said Owens. “Mayor Jack Darnell brings extensive knowledge and experience that will help the Board fulfill its important mission.”
Jack Darnell is currently the Mayor of the city of Fort Morgan. During his 28-year career with the Colorado State Patrol, Darnell served as president for the Northeastern Colorado Peace Officers Association and president of the Colorado State Patrol Association.
The Peace Officers Standards and Training Board oversees the certification of training programs and instructors for police officer candidates. The Board also certifies qualified peace officers.
The Board consists of seventeen members, fourteen of whom are appointed by the Governor. Members serve three-year terms and do not require Senate confirmation.
