OWENS APPOINTS NEW MEMBERS TO THE COLORADO TOURISM OFFICE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
(DENVER) – Gov. Bill Owens today announced the appointment of Stephen Smith, Dana K. Abrahamson, Steve Szapor, Jr., and Douglas L. Jones to the Colorado Tourism Office Board of Directors.
“Tourism is a great source of revenue for the state of Colorado,” said Owens. “It is imperative that we have dedicated and enthusiastic officials promoting the tourism activities that benefit our state. Each new member of the board brings valuable experience and expertise.”
Stephen Smith founded Grande River Vineyards in 1987. In addition to being a successful winery executive, Smith has been involved in independent oil and gas production since 1980. Smith has served on numerous boards and committees, including the Colorado Winery Industry Development Board.
Dana K. Abrahamson has been employed at some of the most popular tourist attractions in the state of Colorado. She is currently the Executive Director of Historic Georgetown, Inc. Part of Abrahamson’s familiarity with Colorado tourism stems from her affiliation with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Colorado Historical Society, and several other preservation-oriented organizations.
Steve Szapor is President and owner of Peak Management
Group Inc., a company that provides advisory services to clients in the resort,
hotel, and gaming industry. In
addition to his extensive knowledge of gaming and resort management, Szapor is
also a certified public accountant with professional experience in accounting
and investment analysis. Szapor is
active in Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Colorado.
Douglas L. Jones is the owner, manager, and developer of RV Parks throughout Colorado. He is a former Chairman of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and currently a member of the Downtown Denver Partnership. Jones volunteers for the Denver Botanic Gardens.
The Colorado Tourism Office Board of Directors sets and administers policies regarding expenditures from the Colorado Travel and Tourism fund. Directors evaluate and decide on the most productive ways to promote tourism- and travel-related activities throughout the state. The Board consists of thirteen members who serve four-year terms and require Senate confirmation.
