OWENS APPOINTS LAEL ELISABETH MONTGOMERY OF BOULDER AS DISTRICT COURT JUDGE TO 20 J.D.
DENVER – Governor Bill Owens today appointed Lael Elisabeth Montgomery of Boulder to the 20th Judicial District (Boulder County) effective July 1, 2001. This judgeship was created by the passage of House Bill 1075, which created 24 new district judge positions statewide.
“Judge Montgomery’s experience on the bench will be a great benefit to the district bench,” said Gov. Owens. “She has earned a reputation for thoughtfulness, self-discipline and integrity.”
Montgomery serves as a county court judge for Boulder County Court in Longmont. Prior to 1997, Montgomery served as deputy district attorney in Boulder.
As an active member of various legal organizations, Montgomery serves as chair of the Professionalism Committee of the Boulder Bar Association. She received her juris doctorate from the University of Colorado Law School.
The initial term of office for a district court judge is a provisional term of two years, after which the incumbent must stand for retention to serve an additional six years.
