OWENS ANNOUNCES NEARLY $24 MILLION IN HOUSING GRANTS
Governor Owens, on behalf of Colorado, receives a check from HUD Assistant Secretary Michael Liu
(DENVER) –Gov. Bill Owens today announced nearly $24 million in federal grants for housing services. Michael Liu, Assistant Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), joined Owens in a news conference to announce four grants to address emergency shelters, homeless transitional housing, rental assistance, and homeownership assistance.
“The partnership between the State of Colorado and HUD has been enormously successful,” said Owens. “By pooling our resources and focusing on a common goal, we will be able to provide thousands of people with access to safe, affordable housing, and further guide them toward self-sufficiency.”
Also in attendance
were John Carson, Region VIII director for HUD, and Terry Moore, director of
Brighton’s Almost Home program, which provides affordable housing to
low-income families in Adams County.
The HUD funds will be administered through four grant programs: 1) the HOME Investment Program, which assists in the rehabilitation of housing units; 2) the Emergency Shelter Grant program, which assists in homelessness prevention and provides emergency shelter and transitional housing for women and families escaping domestic violence; 3) Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS; and 4) the Community Development Block Grant Program, administered by the Department of Local Affairs, for assistance in community development, housing, and economic development.
