OWENS APPOINTS JASON JOVANOVICH TO GARFIELD
COUNTY ASSOCIATE COURT
DENVER - Governor Bill Owens today appointed Jason Dushan
Jovanovich to the Special Associate County Court in Garfield County for the City
of Rifle. This is a unique court,
created by Colorado Revised Statute § 13-6-209, and requires the judge to
maintain his or her residence and court in the City of Rifle. This vacancy was
caused by the retirement of the Honorable Stephen L. Carter and is effective immediately.
“Jason Jovanovich has the experience and temperament to
serve in this important county court judge position,” said Gov. Owens.
“In a limited time frame, Jason has proven to be an excellent
prosecutor, handling his caseload in a fair and efficient manner. He has earned
the respect of his colleagues and his community and I am confident that he will
be an exceptional judge for the people of Garfield County and, in particular,
the citizens of the City of Rifle.”
Jovanovich has served as a Deputy District Attorney in
the 9th Judicial District (Garfield and Rio Blanco Counties) since
2001. In that capacity, he prosecutes a wide range of criminal cases including
matters in county and district court. The majority of his time has been spent
handling cases in Garfield County Court. He earned his undergraduate degree from
Brigham Young University and his law degree from the University of Tulsa College
of Law.
The initial term of office for a county court judge is a
provisional term of two years, after which the incumbent must stand for
retention to serve an additional six years.
The annual salary for this position is $65,089 and it is a 65 percent
position.
