OWENS APPOINTS BRIAN VOGT DIRECTOR OF OFFICE OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Appointment signals that "Colorado will continue to be aggressive, competitive."
(DENVER) - Governor Bill Owens today announced that he has appointed Brian Vogt as director of the Office of Economic Development and International Trade. Vogt succeeds Bob Lee, who is leaving the office to become the Governor's Chief of Staff.
"With his extensive business and community experience, Brian Vogt will be a tremendous asset for the people of Colorado," Owens said. "We are fortunate to have someone of his caliber joining our team. His appointment will mean a seamless transition in the Office of Economic Development, sending a clear signal that Colorado will continue to be aggressive and competitive in the national and world business arenas."
Vogt currently is the President of the South Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce, a post he has held since 1990. He also served as the vice-president for Economic Development at the Chamber from 1986 until 1990. He is an active volunteer in the community, currently serving as President of the Greater Littleton Youth Initiative, Chairman of the Colorado Water Partnership Business Coalition and President of the Columbine Support Fund. He was one of eight founders of the Metro Denver Network (now known as the Metro Denver Economic Development Council) and served as its Chair. He also serves on the boards of the Colorado Civil Justice League, the President's Advisory Board for Metropolitan State College and the Community Board for Littleton Hospital.
"This is a remarkable opportunity and I am eager to champion the bright future of Colorado's economy," Vogt said.
A second generation Coloradan, Vogt grew up in Littleton, attended Heritage High School and is a graduate of the University of Colorado. The Office of Economic Development and International Trade provides financial help and technical support for companies large and small that are starting, expanding or relocating to Colorado. Programs include management training for small companies, assistance for minority-owned businesses, job training, community development grants, international trade and support for Colorado's tourism industry.
Vogt's appointment is effective in April.
