*Note that the Colorado Capitol Building is closed for all legal holidays, except Martin Luther King Day and Presidents' Day.

Historic Tours usually include the following: early Colorado history, Capitol construction, the lawmaking process, the gold dome, several stained glass windows, Women's Gold Tapestry, presidential portraits and a stop outside the Senate and House of Representatives' chambers. All Historic Tours begin at the tour desk located on the east side of the north (Colfax Avenue) entrance on the first floor.

During the regular legislative session (January through May) a separate Legislative Tour is also available. This tour may include a visit with a legislator from the school's area and/or presentations by the House and/or Senate Visitors' Aides. Reservations are required and can be made through our Tour Desk Staff at 303-866-2604. All Legislative Tours begin at the 3rd floor visitors' aides' desks.

Walking times vary in the Capitol area from (small group to large group) to or from the: Colorado History Museum - approximately 10 to 15 minutes; the U.S. Mint - 20 to 25 minutes; the Molly Brown House Museum - 10 to 20 minutes; the Denver Art Museum - 15 to 25 minutes; and the Governor's Mansion - 15 to 30 minutes.

Schools - Maximum of 32 students plus three teachers or chaperones per tour. School bus parking is on both sides of Broadway between Colfax and 14th. Name tags with first names in large, bold print. The rotunda basement benches are available for a picnic-style lunch for students. Please notify the tour desk, in advance, if you are planning to eat lunch in the capitol on the day of your tour. We appreciate your group's courtesy to the legislators, workers, and other visitors to our building during your visit.
